I have so much to say about those who have been defending water boarding as not being torture and as acceptable practice in this so-called ‘War against Terrorism’  against people who are thought to be fighting to harm my country. And, yet, there is so little I can say today.  The video of the young soldier held in Taliban hands says it all.  Is he being mistreated?  If so, what moral high ground can we stand upon to call to the world for aid to retrieve our soldier? What can we say if he is mistreated?  Will our current administration continue to balk at pursuing the possible war crimes – such as torture – committed by the past administration that seem to be so amply documented? If not, how can we dare even squeak like a mouse if that young man is harmed in any way?

This is the pit we have dug for ourselves with words and political rhetoric. Military people like me have always known that the Geneva Convention is a real thing, with real consequences attached to it. The politicians have been playing chess with young people like him as pawns with no consideration for the real lives attached to their jabs at each other. Now, all that is left is to wait and see what the consequences of their recklessness with that once sacred pact between the fighting man and his government will be.

“Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.”

Friedrich Nietzsche
German philosopher (1844 – 1900)

What a decision I have made!  I thought that setting up a blog would be simple.  Everyone has one, don’t they?  I mean, how hard could it possibly be?  Well, I have been in for a shock.  It isn’t that the process is that difficult as in technically difficult.  It is all these choices!  I may as well be shopping for furniture again.  Would I like a theme with three columns and no ability to change the theme (me??) or would I, perhaps, prefer one with two columns and nearly every widget under the sun.  Well, I already know about widgets.  Just a quick look at my Firefox sidebar and my bookmarks link bar will tell you that I never could resist a good widget.  Other women collect shoes.  I…, well, I collect widgets.  Every time a man comes near my computer, the first things I hear is, “Why do you need all those things on your computer?  You know they are slowing you down, don’t you?”  Men don’t understand women at all.  Stiletto heels slow us down, too, but there are very few women who will give up those admiring glances for a faster walking pace and more convenience.  I’m the same way with my computer.  I must have all those add-ons and widgets.  And so what?  They’re free, aren’t they?  So, I don’t even know what my husband has to complain about anyway.

I finally managed to make some decisions about the appearance of the blog, but I haven’t added anything serious yet.  Perhaps I will later and perhaps not.  Sometimes it’s alright not to be serious.  I make it a point after a day of serious research and writing about politics, my favorite subject, to unwind with one of my favorite websites, icanhazcheesburger.com.  Life is about balance and serving up the good with the bad.  After a long day of hard work constructing this blog, I think icanhazcheesburger(.com).  Good night.
